Ylam Deme is an architect and artist whose work explores the connection between space, memory, and storytelling.
Her practice spans private commissions for interior or architecture projects, furniture, sculpture, and drypoint etchings—each piece evoking forgotten memories and layered narratives.

Inspired by folklore and her multicultural heritage—from Ivory Coast and Mauritania to France—her work weaves together diverse influences into an imaginative, poetic language. Across disciplines, she invites viewers into spaces where memory and imagination meet.

Based in London, Ylam Deme attended the Architectural Association in London (AA Dipl Honours, 2022) and has prior training from the Atelier de Sèvres in Paris.

Making a mountain, 2019.

This project questions how to build upon existing grounds without a complete erasure. The project is the design of a mountain rising on an island and it refers to the mythological significance of the mount.
Taking place in Stockholm, it aims to emphasize a recurring scene in cities: small meadow-like moments appearing between the furrows of a patchy surface. By carefully orchestrating the formation of a mount over two decades, a sought-after industrial wasteland in Stockholm is protected from any unforeseen additions.
